Name: HORUS STATUE
Time: c. 1500 BC
Location: Egypt
The Falcon God Horus, one of the most ancient Egyptian deities, is the son of Isis and Osiris. He is the avenger of his father's death and protector of kings. The oldest hieroglyphs use a falcon symbol to portray the concept of god. He is therefore also a symbol of the Egyptian Pharaoh, a living god, and was often incorporated into the king's name. When Pharaoh Horus died, he became his own father, Osiris, fertilized his wife/mother, and thus engendered his own rebirth! This Horus Statue, reproduced from a 3500 year old original, served as a symbol of justice and as a protective link with the living god-king.
